Deep in the Heart: A Texas Music Series with Chaparelle

Chaparelle plays Discovery Green on Thursday, October 15, as part of the Deep in the Heart series. They're sharing the bill with Rodell Duff and DJ Vinyl Ranch, who'll set the stage before the trio takes over.

Deep in the Heart is Discovery Green's new free weekly concert series, and the whole point of it is to showcase the sounds of the Lone Star State. The range they're pulling from is wide—Americana, country, and Tejano alongside indie rock, blues, folk, roots, hip-hop, and punk—and they're booking emerging and regional Texas artists. The idea is to lean on the depth and diversity of the state's music scene to build a community gathering in downtown Houston. The shows happen at the Anheuser-Busch Stage, an outdoor venue that puts the city skyline as the backdrop.

Chaparelle fits right into that Texas focus. They're a collaboration of Texas musicians Zella Day, Jesse Woods, and Beau Bedford, a trio known for their vocal prowess. Their songs channel the enduring allure of country music's golden age, weaving melodic narratives around love and the indomitable Texan essence. It's the kind of sound that looks back at the roots of the genre while keeping it firmly in the present.

The show runs from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Anheuser-Busch Stage, 1500 McKinney St, and admission is free.
