A musical and dance programme by the Bach Society Houston in collaboration with ConTempo Studios, pairing Bach's music with pop-culture references.
The Bach Society Houston brings Dancing Through Bach to Christ the King Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 14, from 3 PM to 4 PM. It's a program built around the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and the composers who followed in his tradition, and it's staged in collaboration with ConTempo Studios. The whole thing is designed for an audience with no prior experience required, so you don't need to be a Bach expert to get into it.
On stage, an intimate company of musicians and dancers pairs Bach with pop-culture nods: a wink of Bridgerton, a minuet performed up close, and a whisper of Wicked. It's a program that puts Bach in conversation with things you've probably already seen or heard, rather than keeping him tucked away in a concert hall. The collaboration with ConTempo Studios brings the dance element into the mix, so you'll be watching the music as much as listening to it.
The Bach Society Houston has been bringing Bach and his successors to a diverse Houston audience since 1981, performing with a professional Bach Choir. This particular program leans into that tradition of making the music accessible, and the collaboration with ConTempo Studios adds a visual layer that's not usually part of a Bach performance. It's a good entry point if you've never spent much time with his work, and it's a different way to hear it if you have.
