Hindu observance of Kartik Vrata with daily Damodar prayers and aarti offerings at 7 am and 7 pm.
ISKCON of Houston is observing the Month of Kartik, also known as Damodar Month, starting Sunday, October 25, and running through Tuesday, November 24. It's a month-long observance that follows the Hindu calendar, and the temple is centering its activities around the Kartik Vrata, the traditional vow associated with the period.
The main feature of the month is the daily Damodar prayers and aarti, which happen twice a day—once at 7 AM and again at 7 PM. If you're in the city and want to drop in, you can catch either the morning or the evening session, or both. The prayers and aarti are the core of the observance, and they run every single day throughout the month, from that first Sunday in October all the way through to the 24th of November.
For those who want to get more involved, there's an option to sponsor a Damodara Arati for any specific day of the month for $125. It's a way to put your name on one of the daily offerings, and since the month spans thirty-one days, you can pick a date that means something to you—a birthday, an anniversary, or just a random Tuesday in November.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Houston and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
