Jazz performance by the Felix DeLeon Quartet presented by DACAMERA at The Menil Collection.
DACAMERA brings Stop, Look, and Listen! to The Menil Collection on Saturday, October 10, at 3 PM. It's an outdoor show on the lawn, so you can bring a blanket and settle in. DACAMERA is known around here as a producer and presenter of chamber music and jazz, and this one falls firmly into the jazz camp.
The music comes from the Felix DeLeon Quartet. DeLeon is on trumpet, Greg Petito on guitar, David Craig on bass, and Nickel Diaz on drums. It's a standard jazz quartet—trumpet, guitar, bass, and drums—which gives you a good sense of the sound: melodic lead with a full rhythm section behind it.
DeLeon is a Houston native, born and raised in a family of church musicians. He learned to play by ear, starting on piano before picking up the trumpet in high school. From there, he studied in Miami with trumpeter and bandleader Arturo Sandoval, and he's shared the stage with a long list of names: Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Chaka Khan, Paquito D'Rivera, Maynard Ferguson, Billy Taylor, David Sanborn, and Nestor Torres. He's been nominated for two Grammy Awards and won one. Around town, he plays with the Texas Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Houston Orchestra, and you'll find him regularly at DOC's Houston.

It's a free show, so there's no ticket to worry about. It starts at 3 PM on the lawn at The Menil Collection, which makes it a good afternoon plan if you're already out in the Museum District.
