A creative writing workshop for middle school students (grades 6-8) taught by 11th and 12th grade students at Kinder HSPVA.
Kinder HSPVA is hosting a Creative Writing Middle School Workshop on Saturday, December 5, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. It's part of the HSPVA Friends' Middle School Workshops, a series of classes open to students in grades 6 through 8. This particular session focuses on creative writing, and it's taught by 11th and 12th grade students from the school.
That's the core of what makes these workshops different: the teachers are older students, not adults. If you've got a middle schooler who's into writing, it's a chance for them to spend the day working with high schoolers who are already deep into their own art. The session runs from mid-morning through the afternoon, so it's a full day's commitment.
Creative writing is just one of several workshops the HSPVA Friends put on. The whole series covers a range of disciplines—dance, instrumental and vocal music, theatre, and visual arts—all open to students in grades 6 through 8. Each one is described as an educational opportunity and a unique introduction to that specific art area, so if your kid is still figuring out what they're into, these can be a good way to sample a few different things.

One practical detail to keep in mind: taking part in these workshops has no effect on a student's application to Kinder HSPVA. They're separate from the admissions process, so you can treat this as a standalone day of writing rather than a step toward getting into the school. The workshop is held at Kinder HSPVA, 790 Austin Street, Houston, TX 77002, on Saturday, December 5, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
