A creative writing workshop for middle school students (grades 6-8) taught by 11th and 12th grade students at Kinder HSPVA.
Kinder HSPVA is hosting a Creative Writing Middle School Workshop on Saturday, October 17, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. It's part of the HSPVA Friends' Middle School Workshops, a series of classes open to students in grades 6 through 8. This particular session focuses on creative writing, and it's taught by 11th and 12th grade students from the school.
If you're not familiar with the broader series, it's more than just writing. Along with creative writing, the workshops cover dance, instrumental and vocal music, theatre, and visual arts, so there's a session for a few different interests. Each one is open to the same middle school age group, and they're all led by the older students at Kinder HSPVA, which gives the younger kids a chance to learn from people who are already working in these disciplines.
One thing to keep in mind: taking a workshop doesn't affect a student's application to Kinder HSPVA. The organizers describe each session as an educational opportunity and a unique introduction to that specific art area, so it's about the experience rather than any kind of credit or admission requirement. If you're looking for a way to get a middle schooler into a creative environment for a day, that's the angle here.

If the October date doesn't work, there's a second session, Session B, on December 5, also from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Both run at Kinder HSPVA, 790 Austin Street, Houston, TX 77002.
