Bayou City Ballet Youth Company showcase blending new choreography with classical tradition, featuring world premieres and classical pieces.
Bayou City Ballet Youth Company takes the stage at Midtown Arts & Theater Center on Sunday, October 18, with a program they've titled Convergence. It's a one-hour show, and they're running two performances that day—one at 1:30 PM and another at 6 PM—so you can pick the time that works best for you. Both are in MATCHBOX 2.
The bill is a mix of new work and the classics. There are world premieres from choreographers Lindsay Cortner and Barry Kerollis, and Artistic Director Alex Pandiscio stages the Grand Pas Classique divertissement from Paquita and the Garland Waltz from The Sleeping Beauty. Two guest companies, Creative Minds Collaborative and Ad Deum Dance Company, also appear. The title Convergence fits what they're doing: putting new choreography alongside the older tradition.
It helps to know who's behind it. The Bayou City Ballet Youth Company started in 2020 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and its main thing is giving advanced ballet students who are aiming for professional careers a high-quality stage to perform on. That's the part you'll see on the 18th. Beyond the stage, they run educational programs across greater Houston every season—master classes, performances, and workshops—and they raise funds each year to provide need-based financial assistance to their members.
