Three-day festival with art, culture, cars, and community across Houston, featuring live mural painting, car shows, and music.
The Buffalo Bayou Mural Festival returns to The East End this weekend, running Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18. It's a three-day stretch of art, culture, cars, and community spread across a few different spots in the neighborhood, with live mural painting, car shows, and music as the main draw.
Things actually get moving a day early: there's an artist Q&A on Thursday, October 15, from 6 to 8 PM at Slowpokes on Canal Street. The official kickoff follows on Friday, October 16, with a party from 7 to 11 PM at Karbach Brewing. The bulk of the action happens Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, from 1 to 9 PM at Crux Climbing Center (3100 Canal St., The Plant, Second Ward), where you'll find the mural painting and the rest of the programming. Sunday wraps up with a Lucha Libre wrestling show.
There's some good history behind it. Houston artist José 'Meenr' Arredondo started the festival in 2024 because he wanted to bring artists together and give back to the community that supported his own career. The first edition drew 2,000 people and 20 artists; since then, it's grown to more than 50 muralists from the U.S. and abroad, with 105 murals now across the Segundo Barrio. The East End was named a Texas cultural district by the Texas Commission on the Arts in 2014 and has long served as a canvas for public art—the East End Houston Cultural District now counts more than 30 arts and culture institutions within its boundaries.
