Concert by Bruce Robison, a respected Texas songwriter known for hits by The Chicks, George Strait and Tim McGraw.
Bruce Robison plays McGonigel's Mucky Duck on Friday, October 30, at 6 PM. If you've spent any time listening to Texas country or folk over the last few decades, you've heard his writing even if you didn't know his name. He's the pen behind The Chicks' "Travelin' Soldier," George Strait's "Wrapped," and the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill duet "Angry All The Time."
Robison has spent as much time writing for other people as he has for himself, but he's just as known for the records he puts his own name on. In 2016 he started The Next Waltz, a creative collective he describes as being dedicated to preserving the spirit of genuine, unfiltered music. He records from The Bunker, an analog-only studio near Austin, where he works with a rotating cast of artists and avoids digital trickery in favor of a raw, organic sound. That same analog approach shows up on Bruce Robison & The Back Porch Band, which he cut to tape with no digital overdubs.
He's also spent a good part of his career sharing the stage with his wife, Kelly Willis. They've released two duo projects together, Cheaters Game and Our Year (2013-2014), and they've toured as a pair for years. Between the solo work, the duo records, and the songs he's written for some of the biggest names in country, there's a lot of ground to pull from for a single set.
