A fusion of classical ballet and modern technology, featuring local dancers in glow-in-the-dark costumes performing the story of the cursed princess.
Ballet of Lights: Sleeping Beauty comes to the Bayou Theatre on Saturday, October 17, presented by We call it Ballet. It's a retelling of the classic storyโthe cursed princess who sleeps until she's awakened by true love's kissโbut with a twist: the dancers wear lighted and glow-in-the-dark costumes. The production is billed as a fusion of classical ballet and modern technology, and the cast is made up of local dancers.
On stage, the glow-in-the-dark costumes turn the choreography into something more than just movement. Pirouettes and gravity-defying leaps cast a kaleidoscope of colors across the room, so the light becomes as much a part of the performance as the dancing itself. The whole thing runs about 60 minutes, which keeps it tight and easy to fit into a Saturday afternoon.
There are a few practical things to keep in mind before you head out. The Bayou Theatre is not wheelchair accessible, and seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis within each zone, so if you have a preference for where you sit, arriving early is your best bet. The show is recommended for ages 8 and over, and children under 16 have to be accompanied by an adult.
