The Houston Symphony performs J.S. Bach's Concerto for Two Violins and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, featuring violinists Gil Shaham and Adele Anthony.
The Houston Symphony brings Bach & Vivaldi's Four Seasons to Jones Hall on April 22, 24, and 25, 2027. It's part of the orchestra's 2026-27 season, led by Music Director Juraj Valčuha, which runs 42 classical and POPS performances broadcast live from the hall.
The program centers on Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, one of the most recognizable works in classical music. It's a set of four concertos that follow the year through the seasons, with each one painting the sights and sounds of the time: birdsong and flowering meadows in Spring, the harvest of Fall, and the icy sparkle of Winter. It's a piece that doesn't ask you to imagine much—it tells you exactly what it's describing.
Sharing the stage are Gil Shaham and Adele Anthony, a husband-and-wife team. Shaham is the Houston Symphony's Artist-in-Residence for the 2026-27 season, and the two perform together on J.S. Bach's Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, known as the 'Double' Violin Concerto. The program also includes A Time to Mourn and a Time to Dance, a new work written specifically for them by Avner Dorman. Between the two Baroque staples and the new piece, the evening moves from the familiar to the contemporary.
