Author Gigi L. Leung discusses her novel 'Everyday Movement', joined by scholar Stan Hok-Wui Wong, with a book signing and reception.
Gigi L. Leung will be at the Asia Society Texas Center on Thursday, October 8, for a talk about her novel Everyday Movement. She'll be joined by Hong Kong political scholar Stan Hok-Wui Wong, and the conversation will center on the tension between individual lives and collective beliefs.
Leung is a Hong Kong novelist and poet based in Taipei, and Everyday Movement is her latest. She originally wrote and published it in traditional Chinese; Jennifer Feeley translated it into English, and Riverhead Books put it out in February 2026. It's not her first book, eitherβshe also wrote The Melancholy of Trees. Her work has picked up the Golden Tripod Award for Literature and the TSMC Literary Award, and she was a finalist for the Taipei Literary Award.
If you're not familiar with the venue, the Asia Society Texas Center is in the Museum District at 1370 Southmore Blvd. It opened in 2012 as a 40,000-square-foot space designed by Yoshio Taniguchi, and it's the only U.S. branch of Asia Society besides the New York headquarters to have its own building. Inside, it holds a flexible classroom and conference space, an art gallery, a 273-seat theater, three gardens, and a cafe.
