Comedy night with David Sedaris reading new stories, followed by a book signing for his latest collection 'The Land and Its People'.
David Sedaris is coming to the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Center on Sunday, November 8, for an evening of reading and a book signing. The set is built around new stories, and the signing follows.
If you're not already familiar, Sedaris has built a career on the kind of observational humor that finds the absurdity in the everyday. The Guardian has called him "the best living humorist in America," and the numbers back it up: sixteen million books in print across thirty-two languages, with six New York Times bestsellers among them. You likely know Naked and Me Talk Pretty One Day, and more recently Calypso and The Land and Its People. He's a regular contributor to The New Yorker, and Me Talk Pretty One Day earned him the 2001 Thurber Prize for American Humorβthe New York Public Library later named it one of the 125 most important books of the last 125 years in 2020. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2019.
His latest collection, The Land and Its People, came out in May 2026, and this Houston stop is built around the book signing he's become known for. He describes his approach to the signing simply: he "stays as long as you do."
