The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater presents its touring company programme including the signature work 'Revelations', 'Divining', 'Flight Time' and 'Open Door' at Jones Hall.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to Jones Hall for a run from April 16 to 18, 2027. The company has a long history with Houstonβthey first performed Revelations here in 1971 and have been back more than twenty times since, making them the city's most frequently presented artist. This visit is part of their touring company program, and it's built around that same signature work.
Revelations is the piece that closes every performance. It's the company's most-seen work in modern dance, and it came from the "blood memories" of founder Alvin Ailey's childhood in Texas. Artistic Director Alicia Graf Mack calls it "the ultimate anthem to resilience and joy."
Alongside Revelations, the program includes Divining by Julidth Jamieson, a new production of Flight Time by Alvin Ailey, and Open Door by Ronald K. Brown and Arcell Cabaug. The company is a non-profit that blends choreographed dance, ballet, and jazz with rumba, and Congress designated it "a vital American cultural ambassador to the world."
