Fifth annual family and dog-friendly morning walk with a Halloween and Day of the Dead theme, featuring local pet vendors and community resources.
Barrio Dogs is bringing back Tails & Trails to Mason Park on Saturday, October 10, from 9 AM to 11:30 AM. This is the fifth year they've put on the morning walk, and this edition has a Halloween and Día de los Muertos theme, so costumes are encouraged for both people and pets. The walk itself is led by Urban Paths, and the rest of the morning is filled out with local pet vendors, community resources, and family-friendly activities.
If you aren't familiar with the organization behind it, Barrio Dogs is a Houston nonprofit that works to create safer, healthier communities for people and animals through education, outreach, and accessible resources. Their focus is on prevention—addressing the root causes of animal overpopulation, neglect, and abandonment through community education, free spay/neuter services, youth programs, and neighborhood outreach. Tails & Trails is their annual morning event, built around health, fitness, and stress relief, so it's as much about getting outside as it is about the cause.
Between the walk and the vendors, there's plenty of room to hang out with your dog and meet other pet owners in the neighborhood. The Halloween and Día de los Muertos theme gives you an excuse to dress up your dog, and the family-friendly activities make it easy to bring the kids along. It's a low-key way to spend a Saturday morning while supporting a local organization that spends its time on the ground in Houston's neighborhoods.
