A celebration of the music and culture of the Texas-Louisiana border, featuring Big Sam's Funky Nation at the historic Miller Outdoor Theatre.
Big Sam's Funky Nation headlines the 3rd Annual Louisiana in Texas at Miller Outdoor Theatre on Saturday, October 24, at 7:30 PM. Produced by Full Gallop, the concert is part of Miller's free season, which the theatre's advisory board calls the largest free performing-arts program of its kind in the country.
Louisiana in Texas celebrates the music and culture that flow across the Texas-Louisiana border, and this year it returns bigger and bolder, bringing the spirit of New Orleans to Houston. The night also marks Creole Heritage Month, honoring the traditions and contributions Creole culture has made to the musical history of the border, from zydeco rhythms to soulful blues. Big Sam's Funky Nation takes the stage as the main act, and the whole evening is free.
Miller Outdoor Theatre, now in its second century, recently underwent almost $2 million in renovations and upgrades. Its 7.5-acre grounds now feature a state-of-the-art outdoor stage with new AC and electrical updates, covered seating, and a lush hillside for patrons to sit on. The season is presented by H-E-B and funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance.
