Micah Barnes brings his Up On The Roof tour to The Carleton on Sunday, August 16, for a set that pulls from two very different sides of his career. If you know him from The Nylons, that's a good place to start: the show leans heavily on the songs of that internationally famous a cappella group, so you'll hear the vocal harmonies that made them a household name. Alongside those, he works through the jazz standards he's made his own over the years.
Barnes has a long history that stretches well beyond the group. Born in Vienna and raised in Canada, he cut his teeth in Toronto's cabarets and jazz clubs before joining The Nylons in 1989. After leaving, he launched a solo career that took him across the US with the club hit "Welcome To My Head," which reached number one on the Billboard charts. He eventually returned to jazz with critically acclaimed recordings like New York Stories and the 2020 release Vegas Breeze, which entered the jazz charts at number one.
When he's not touring, he works in Toronto as a vocal, performance, and career strategy coach for international clients, including GRAMMY nominee J.P. Saxe and Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany. He's also shared the stage with artists like Molly Johnson and Jackie Richardson. This show brings those two worlds together—the a cappella hits and the jazz standards—under one roof.

The performance runs from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and tickets are C$28.50 for a general admission seated show, which is C$25 plus HST.
