The Surfrajettes

The Surfrajettes play The Marquee Ballroom on Friday, August 28, as part of the Summer Stomp 2026 series. They're a four-piece instrumental combo from Toronto, Ontario, formed in late 2015, and they mix psychedelic rock with reverb-drenched surf music. The whole thing is instrumental, so there's no one to sing over — just the guitars, bass, and drums.

They first made a name for themselves through home-made performance videos and a feature by Norman's Rare Guitars in LA. Their debut 45, Party Line / Toxic, came out in late 2018 on Hi-Tide Recordings, followed by their first full-length album, Roller Fink, in 2022. Their second LP, Easy as Pie, arrived in October 2025, so this show comes while the new material is still fresh. The band consists of guitarists Shermy Freeman and Nicole Damoff, bassist Abby Jo Powell and drummer Annie Lillis.

There's a strong visual side to what they do, too. The members sport sky-high beehives, go-go boots and eyeliner as thick as their guitar strings, so the look is as much a part of the act as the sound. It's a full-band instrumental set, with the two guitars taking the lead over the rhythm section.

The show runs from 8:00 PM to midnight at The Marquee Ballroom, 2037 Gottingen St, and it's 19+. Advance tickets are C$25 plus tax and fees, with prices ranging from C$15.25 to C$29.20 depending on when and where you buy. There are no refunds.
