Detty & Wuk returns to The Dome Nightclub on Saturday 5 September, bringing a full day and night of Afro-Caribbean music to downtown Halifax. It's a long one, running from 4:30 pm through to 3:00 am, with dancehall, soca, amapiano, afrobeats, reggae and hip-hop on the go throughout.
The night sits within the wider Detty December phenomenon, which grew alongside the Ghanaian government's 'Year of Return' initiative in 2019, marking the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved Africans in North America. 'Detty' comes from a variation of 'dirty', and it's meant to signal a readiness to embrace unrestrained enjoyment. Since 2022, Ghana has waived visa requirements for all arrivals during December and January, and the year-long celebration now draws up to 1.5 million tourists, bringing in an estimated C$2.5 billion (C$1.9 billion) in revenue.

In Halifax, the party is hosted at The Dome, at 1732 Argyle Street. It's a downtown venue with six fully stocked bars that serve until 3:30 am, a Red Bull DJ booth in the sky, and dance boxes and poles. Entry is C$12, and the music runs from late afternoon well into the next morning.
