A genre-blurring songwriter from Nova Scotia performs live at The Marquee Ballroom as part of the Sommo Festival series.
Baby Nova plays the Marquee Ballroom on Sunday, September 6, as part of the Sommo Festival. She's a Nova Scotian songwriter whose work sits between two fairly different worlds: eerie, folk-style storytelling on one hand and hypnotic electronic pop on the other. It's the kind of sound that doesn't quite settle into one camp, and that seems to be the point.
Before she was making records, she worked as a contortionist and acrobatic dancer in the circus, and that background still colors her writing. She describes herself as 'God's sugar baby' and 'your deadbeat daughter', and she brings a tilted, outsider perspective to everything she does. These days she's based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and this show is presented by Whitecap Entertainment.
