A monthly series where readers bring a book and a beer to enjoy a quiet night of reading in the speakeasy bar at Good Robot Brewing.
Silent Reading is back at Good Robot Brewing on Sunday 6 September, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. It's a monthly series held in The Mousetrap, the brewery's upstairs speakeasy bar, and this one falls on the first Wednesday of the month, which is when they've run it for eleven years now.
The premise is exactly what the name says: you bring a book, you grab a beer, and you spend a few hours reading. There's no assigned title to keep up with and no pressure to perform socially. It's billed as a quiet night of books, beer and blissfully low expectations for social interaction, and that's pretty much the whole point. If you've been looking for a reason to actually finish that book on your nightstand, this is a good place to do it.
Because it's a monthly thing, it's easy to drop into whenever you're in the mood. You don't have to commit to a whole club or a long-term reading list—just show up with whatever you're currently reading. The brewery has been offering this quiet space to read on the first Wednesday of every month for eleven years, so it's a well-established fixture of the local scene.
