Sable Pipeline bring their Surf & Ska show to The Carleton on Saturday, August 15, from 8:00 pm to 11:30 pm. It's their first time playing this particular set at the venue, and the night is set up as a standing and dancing room, with seating available for those who get there early.
Sable Pipeline is a scrappy local Halifax band that plays instrumental surf and Jamaican ska, and the set is built around covers from a few different corners of those styles. They pull from The Ventures, Dick Dale, and The Safaris on the surf side, and The Specials, The Skatalites, and The Meters on the ska side. It's all instrumental, so the focus is on the playing rather than the singing.
Because it's a mix of surf and ska, the night works both ways: you can dance to it if that's your speed, or just hang out and listen. The Carleton is promoting it as a standing and dancing room, but if you'd rather sit, there's seating for whoever arrives early.
