Concert by Petunia & The Vipers on their 2026-2027 tour, blending country, blues, ragtime and punk rock influences.
Petunia & The Vipers play Bearly's House Of Blues & Ribs on Friday, July 24, as part of their Across Canada Summer West to East tour. It's one of 28 dates across 19 cities on their 2026-2027 run, and this is the Halifax stop.
If you haven't heard them before, it's a hard band to pin down. They pull from country, blues, ragtime, Dixieland jazz, bebop, western swing and old-time cowboy music, then run it all through punk, alternative and Bowie-influenced rock. The roots go back to the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams and a long line of 'Blind' figures, and the rock side brings in the punk and Bowie. Fans and critics have described the sound as a hybrid of the 1920s and steampunk.
On stage, Petunia fronts the band on vocals and acoustic guitar. Patrick Metzger is on upright bass, and Stephen Nikleva handles electric guitar and mandolin. They're joined by a rotating cast of musicians, including Noah Walker, Rusty Blake and Jimmy Roy, so the lineup can shift from night to night.
