Maximum Overdrive

Maximum Overdrive are back at The Carleton on Saturday, 17 October, for another 80s-themed party night. It's a standing-room show that leans on the crowd's own dance moves, and it's their third Halifax date of 2026 — they've already sold out the first two.

The set is a time machine of 1980s gems, and the range is wide. They run through INXS, Duran Duran, The Pixies, Cyndi Lauper, The Cure, Madonna, Billy Idol, New Order, DEVO and Tears for Fears, so it's as much about the synth-pop and new wave as it is the guitar-driven stuff. It's the kind of list that pulls from a few different corners of the decade, and they've played it across Canada and beyond.

Behind the front is a collective of some of Halifax's best-known musicians. Izra Fitch takes vocals and keys, with Leith Fleming Smith on keys and vocals, Zach MacLean on guitar and vocals, Serge Samson on bass, Matt Thauvette on drums and Craig Mercer on vocals and percussion. They bill themselves as the east coast's hottest party band, and that's the whole point of the night: it's a dance floor, not a seated concert, so the energy comes from the room as much as the stage.

It kicks off at 8:00 pm at The Carleton in downtown Halifax, with C$10 at the door.
