Lie-down Ambient Concert with Rezound

Rezound are playing a lie-down ambient concert at St. George's Round Church Hall on Friday 7 August, and the format is exactly what it sounds like: you lie down, close your eyes, and spend an hour immersed in live ambient music. It's a full hour of sound, and the whole point is to just let it wash over you.

On stage, Rezound work with voice, instruments and electronics to build improvised soundscapes that unfold slowly around the room. They describe the experience as one that invites deep listening, rest and reflection, and since it's all improvised live, it's not a set of songs you'll recognize from a record — it's something being made in the room while you're lying there. The music is ambient, which means it's more about texture and atmosphere than melody or beat, the kind of thing that works best when you've actually got your eyes closed and nothing to do but listen.

Because you'll be on the floor for the duration, there are a few things to keep in mind. You're asked to bring your own yoga mat, and blankets, pillows and other comfort aids are welcome — the more you bring to make yourself comfortable, the easier it is to actually settle in. The performance is open to all ages, so it's as much for kids as it is for adults, provided they can handle an hour of lying still.

The concert is in the Music Room at St. George's Round Church Hall, 2222 Brunswick Street, which is the first door inside the entrance. It runs from 7 PM to 8 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM, and entry is free.
