Halifax Urban Folk Festival Youth Songwriters' Showcase

The Halifax Urban Folk Festival Youth Songwriters' Showcase returns to The Carleton on Sunday 27 September. It's an annual fixture of the festival, run in association with Marine Drive Talent Management, and it's built around a dozen or so young aspiring musicians from across Nova Scotia. Over the years it's grown into one of the festival's most popular strands, and past participants have gone on to headline their own shows.

Because it's a showcase, the whole point is to hear a bunch of different voices in one afternoon. You'll get a dozen or so teenage songwriters from across the province, each playing their own material, rather than one big act. It's a good way to catch a snapshot of what the younger songwriting scene in Nova Scotia sounds like right now, all on one stage.

Applications for the showcase are open, and the line-up and ticket information will be announced in the weeks leading up to the date. If you're a young songwriter yourself, that's the part to keep an eye on. For everyone else, the actual list of who's playing will come out closer to the day.

Doors open at 12:00 pm, and the show starts at 1:30 pm, so it's a Sunday afternoon thing rather than a late night. It's at The Carleton in Halifax, and the line-up will be announced as the date gets closer.
