Folk/Americana/Roots concert by Halifax-based singer-songwriter Doug Hawco.
Doug Hawco plays the Harbourstone Sea Grill & Pour House on Friday 9 October, starting at 6:00 PM. He's a Halifax-based singer-songwriter who writes across genres, and this is a solo bill — just him on stage.
If you're not familiar with his work, the influences he lists give you a good sense of where he sits. He draws from U2, Ryan Adams, Garth Brooks and Great Big Sea, so the sound pulls from a few different directions: the anthemic side of rock, the storytelling of Americana, and the folk-rooted energy of the East Coast. It's a wide net, and that's a fair part of the appeal — he doesn't stick to one lane.
He released his second full-length album, Life on the Water, in February 2017, and he's played more than 1,000 shows around the world since then. That's a lot of time on stage, and it shows in how he handles a room. He describes his own live style as intimate and storytelling-led, which is exactly what you'd expect from a singer-songwriter playing a room like this.
