Don Ross and Julie Malia play The Carleton on Sunday 11 October, a seated guitar and vocal performance. Ross is a Canadian fingerstyle guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, born and raised in Montreal to a Mi'kmaw mother and a Scottish immigrant father. He studied composition at York University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music, and later a Master of Arts in Orchestration. He turned professional in 1988, the same year he won the US National Fingerpick Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kansas, and remains the competition's only two-time winner, taking it again in 1996.
His album Huron Street reached the top ten on Billboard's new age chart, and Passion Session (1999) is considered a high water mark of modern solo guitar, with several tunes now standard repertoire. A member of the Millbrook First Nation, he has composed for Toronto theatre and the CBC radio serial Dead Dog Café, and in 2021 won the Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts. He now lives in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and continues to tour with guitarist and songwriter Julie Malia.

The show runs from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at The Carleton, 1685 Argyle Street in Halifax. Tickets are C$30 plus HST, which comes to C$34.20 including taxes.
