A new trio concert directed by Lise Dion, where country meets soul, with Dave Fenley, Gabriella Laberge and John Antony Gagnon.
Dave Fenley brings his trio to the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on Tuesday, September 29, at 7:30 pm. It's a new trio concert directed by Lise Dion, and the whole thing sits right where country meets soul. Fenley is the front and centre here, and he's joined by Quebec musicians Gabriella Laberge and John Antony Gagnon Robinette. The three of them are billed as the Dave Fenley Trio, and the show is part of the Dalhousie Arts Centre's 'DAC Presents' series, which runs from September 2026 through March 2027.
Fenley's background explains a good bit of the sound. He grew up between Texas and Canada before finding his way to Nashville, and his voice is described as being felt as much as heard. He's been called one of the most explosive and energetic jazz voices on the planet, and that's the energy he's bringing to this one. The set blends country and soul with raw emotion and a folk-country sound, and it's built as an intimate, moving performance full of surprises. With Laberge and Gagnon Robinette on the other ends, it's a trio that pulls from a few different traditions at once.
