Intimate hometown concert by singer-songwriter Ben Caplan, known for his baritone voice and blend of folk, blues, gospel and Eastern European influences.
Ben Caplan plays The Carleton on Wednesday, September 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. He's a singer, songwriter and live performer from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, now based here in Halifax, and this is a solo show in his home city.
If you've never seen him, the first thing you'll notice is the voice — a deep, unmistakable baritone. His sets pull from folk, blues, gospel and Eastern European influences, and he's been touring heavily since 2011, with more than 1,600 shows across 28 countries. That includes sold-out dates with Symphony Nova Scotia and headlining the Light House Arts Centre.
His most recent project was the theatrical production Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story, which he co-created with Christian Barry and Hannah Moscovitch and produced with Halifax's 2b Theatre Company. The music from that show fills his third studio album, Old Stock, which won the 2018 Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts Award. He also took home the 2019 East Coast Music Award for songwriter of the year.

Right now he's playing solo shows around the Maritimes and working on a new solo album, and he's gearing up for a tour of Scandinavia and Eastern Europe this fall. Tickets are C$50 plus HST, which comes to C$57.00 including taxes.
