A concert of Astor Piazzolla's Nuevo Tango by Louise Bessette, Marc Djokic and Chloé Dominguez, within the Scotia Festival of Music.
Louise Bessette brings Astor Piazzolla's Nuevo Tango to The Peggy Corkum Music Room on Wednesday, October 7, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. She's joined by violinist Marc Djokic and cellist Chloé Dominguez, and the evening is part of the Scotia Festival of Music.
The programme is a deep dive into Piazzolla's work. They'll be playing Oblivion, Histoire du Tango, Le Grand Tango, Adios Nonino, Kicho, and Las cuatro estaciones porteñas—the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. It's a good spread of his writing, from the more intimate pieces to the larger, more expansive ones, all handled by a piano, violin, and cello trio.
There's a bit more to it than just a single night's set list. The concert is part of A Piano Around the World, an ongoing project by Bessette that looks at music from different continents and cultures. This particular stop is Buenos Aires, where the trio focuses on the joys and passions of Piazzolla, the master of Nuevo Tango. It's also one of the evenings in the Music Room Chamber Players Series at the venue.
