A thrilling new musical inspired by the Scottish witch trials, with electronic dance music, soaring vocals and explosive choreography.
Witch Hunt plays Cottiers on Sunday 25 October, a new musical that takes the Scottish witch trials and runs them through a dance floor. It's not your usual stage production: the sound is built on electronic dance music, with soaring vocals and explosive choreography doing the heavy lifting. The whole thing is inspired by those trials, so the history of the witch hunts in Scotland sits right at the centre of it.
The story kicks off when a ruthless King declares war on witches, and from there the fear just spreads across the land. Three women are accused, hunted, and forced to run for their lives, with a bishop pursuing them who's hiding a dangerous secret of his own. It's a chase on its face, but the electronic music and the dance are what carry it, so the energy comes as much from the sound and the movement as it does from the plot.
It's a new musical, so this is one of its first outings. The combination of electronic dance music and choreography means it's as much about the beat and the body as it is about the singing, and the whole thing is set against that backdrop of the Scottish witch trials. If you're into dance and you don't mind a bit of history mixed in, it's a good place to start.
