Norway's Valkyrien Allstars blend traditional folk and contemporary pop as part of Celtic Connections 2027, with special guest Megalichen.
Valkyrien Allstars play Saint Luke's and the Winged Ox on Saturday 23 January, as part of Celtic Connections 2027. They're coming from Norway, and they're not alone — Megalichen are on the bill too, so you'll get two acts for the price of one.
If you've never come across them, Valkyrien Allstars are Norwegian folk pioneers. Their sound centres on the hardanger fiddle — a traditional Norwegian instrument with understrings that ring out alongside the ones you play — and they blend it with contemporary pop. It's that mix of old-world folk and modern pop that's their thing, and it's what they're bringing to Glasgow.
The show is presented by Celtic Connections, the festival that takes over the city every January, so this is one of the many dates they've got running across town. Saint Luke's and the Winged Ox is in the East End, a multipurpose music and arts venue that does more than just gigs — it's got a bar and restaurant, live entertainment, and function facilities on site, so it's a spot that works for a drink and a meal as much as it does for a night of music.

A couple of practical things to keep in mind: the night is for ages 14 and over, and under-16s have to come with an adult. With Megalichen opening, you've got two acts on the bill, and the whole thing falls under the Celtic Connections umbrella, which means it's part of the wider festival programme running across Glasgow that January.
