Transmission, the UK's number one Joy Division tribute act, recreate the atmosphere of a live Joy Division gig.
Transmission are playing Stereo Cafe Bar on Saturday 5 December, bringing their Joy Division tribute to the city centre. They're billed as the UK's number one Joy Division act, and they describe their set as recreating the atmosphere of a live Joy Division gig and emulating the band's sound, with the aim of letting audiences relive it forty years on.
For those who need the context, Joy Division formed in the late 1970s and dissolved in May 1980 after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. The remaining members went on to form New Order and became pioneers of the post-punk movement of the late seventies and early eighties, so the sound Transmission is working from sits right at the start of that whole lineage. If you've never seen them, that's the pitch: a set built around the band's live sound and the particular feel of their gigs, rather than just a run-through of the records.
