Glasgow 12-piece supergroup delivering a high-octane fusion of rock, gypsy punk, surf and jazz as part of the Celtic Connections festival.
The Great Pleasure play Saint Luke's on Wednesday 20 January, their set part of the Celtic Connections festival. It's a Glasgow supergroup of twelve pieces, and the bill is The Great Pleasure plus support.
Twelve people on one stage is a fair few, and the sound they build from it is a high-octane fusion of rock 'n' roll, gypsy punk, surf and jazz. It's a wide reach for one band to cover, and having that many players on stage gives them the room to pull from all those different places at once. The rock 'n' roll provides the drive, the gypsy punk brings the energy, and the surf and jazz add the textures and the swing. When you hear it, you can tell where the different threads come from, and how they fit together.
