Exhibition with over 80 works of photography on Glasgow, past and present, drawn from the Glasgow Life Museums' collection.
Still Glasgow is on at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) until 13 June 2027, with more than 80 works of photography on the city, past and present. It's a big pull from the Glasgow Life Museums' collection, pairing well-known images of Glasgow with lesser-known pieces by artists who work with photography and the urban environment. The show grew out of a conversation between GoMA curator and producer Katie Bruce and Malcolm Dickson, director of Street Level Photoworks, after a visit to the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre, and it's since expanded to include moving image.
There's a lot of ground to cover. You'll find work by Linda McCartney, David Eustace's Buskers Portfolio (1993), Bert Hardy, Oscar Marzaroli, Alasdair Gray, Joanne Tatham, and Tom O'Sullivan. Roderick Buchanan's film Gobstopper (1999) is in there too, and photographic panels from the 1975 installation What's It to You? by Stansfield/Hooykaas. A good chunk of it hasn't been seen since it first came into the Glasgow Life Museums collection, like Alan Dimmick's portrait of Franz Ferdinand.

The exhibition opened in the closing months of Glasgow 850, the year-long celebration of the city's 850th birthday, and it sits ahead of GoMA's 30th anniversary in 2026. It's free and drop-in, so no ticket is needed to walk in. There's also an artist talk on Saturday 10 October, which is free but does require booking via Eventbrite. The Gallery of Modern Art is at Royal Exchange Square, G1 3AH, and the show runs until 13 June 2027.
