Red Note Ensemble and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland present an evening of new music composed by RCS staff and students.
Red Note Ensemble are playing Glasgow Cathedral on Friday 30 October, an evening of new music presented alongside the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The ensemble specialises in bringing new writing to the stage, and this particular showcase gathers work from RCS staff and students, with the cathedral setting adding a particular resonance to the programme.
On the bill is Embryonic by Bekah Simms, commissioned by Nouvel Ensemble Moderne and Red Note Ensemble, and 13 Factories for ensemble and electronics by David Fennessy, which dates from 2009. Alongside those are new works by RCS PhD composition students Gillian Walker and Kate Sagovsky. The mix puts established contemporary composers on the same programme as the Conservatoire's own staff and students, so you'll hear a range of voices in one sitting.
Behind the showcase is the RCS Composers Lab, which develops work throughout the Conservatoire's composition course. The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is a world-leading conservatoire of music, drama, dance, production and film in Glasgow City Centre, and Red Note is the ensemble that takes that new music from the studio to the stage. This is one of the nights where that process comes together in public.
