Folk artist Pippa Blundell brings her exceptional songwriting to a night of live music at Cottiers.
Pippa Blundell plays Cottiers on Thursday 12 November, performing with her full band. It's a Glasgow singer-songwriter's homecoming of sorts, and she'll be playing the songs from her debut album, common thread, which came out on 6 June via Bridge the Gap.
Blundell's path to songwriting wasn't a straight line. She's a Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate who trained as a mezzo-soprano with opera in her sights before finding her place in contemporary songwriting and composition. That classical background still shows: her music draws on the storytelling of folk alongside ambient sounds and classical vocal influences, with lyrics that work through love, grief and womanhood. She's named Anna B Savage, Laura Marling, This Is The Kit and The Weather Station as inspirations, and you can hear those threads running through the record.
She's been gaining a fair bit of momentum over the last couple of years. The Scottish Album of the Year Awards named her in their 'Sound of Young Scotland' nominations across 2023 and 2024, and BBC Radio Scotland's Vic Galloway listed her as one of his 'artists to watch'. Since her debut EP sisters in 2023, she's supported corto.alto, 10cc, Rachel Sermanni, Kaia Kater and Nubiyan Twist, so this is a full-band show rather than a solo turn. The night is presented by Regular Music and is for ages 14 and over.
