Pete Murphy returns to Glasgow Comedy Festival with a new hour of stand-up about the terrible decisions we make to avoid awkward conversations.
Pete Murphy is back in Glasgow on Saturday 20 March, playing Van Winkle West End as part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. It's a brand-new hour of stand-up, and the title, NO!, gives you the whole thing in two letters.
If you've seen him before, you'll know the background: he's a former professional wrestler who went by 'The Pirate King' before switching to the stage. This new show follows sold-out runs at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe, and a sold-out UK tour, so he's coming off a strong run of momentum. The hour is built around the tiny word that could have saved us all, and the terrible decisions we make just to avoid a slightly awkward conversation. He talks about those innocent favours that somehow turn into unpaid employment, and the social invitations we accept under emotional duress—the things we say 'yes' to when every fibre of our being is screaming 'no'.
It's a premise that hits home for anyone who's ever found themselves agreeing to something they'd rather not do just to keep the peace. He works it with sharp observations, outrageous stories, and a brutally funny honesty about the gap between what we say and what we actually want. It's the kind of material that starts with a small, recognisable annoyance and builds from there.
