Exhibition pairing new work by artist Marie-Claire Lacey with work made by a community of new mums in workshops she facilitated across Glasgow.
MUMS - A Shared Story Of Motherhood opens at Tramway on 18 October and runs until 15 November. It's presented by Greater Govanhill and sits on the mezzanine level in the Greater Govanhill Community Canvas. There's an opening event on Saturday 17 October from 3pm to 5pm, so you can catch it before the main run kicks off.
The exhibition pairs new work by artist Marie-Claire Lacey with work made by a community of new mums. Lacey's pieces came out of her time as artist in residence, drawing on her own autobiographical experience, and they sit alongside work created in workshops she and nine guest artists ran with new mums across Glasgow. Those guest artists were Ruby Hirsch, Shirley Hottier, Brittney Shaked, Keng Keng Tang, Martha Orbach, Yasmin Al-Hadithi, Oktavia Schreiner, Alex Fulton and Rebecca Livesey-Wright.
What you'll find inside is a real mix of things. There are moving-image works that look at maternal time, overwhelm and mental load; large-scale collaborative psychogeographic narrated paintings; an interactive piece that asks what 'mother' looks like; and then clay, textile installation, collage and text. It's a wide spread of media, with the professional work and the community-made pieces sharing the same space.

The whole thing grew out of a wider artistic research project Lacey led into maternal experiences. It was funded by Creative Scotland, with support from Govanhill Baths Community Trust, Govanhill Community Development Trust, Glasgow Women's Library, GMAC Film and others, and the community engagement was delivered as part of Govanhill Baths' Wellbeing Programme.
Entry is free and it's drop-in, so no ticket needed. Tramway is open Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 11:00-17:00, and Saturday 11:00-18:00, and closed Monday and Tuesday. You'll find it at 25 Albert Drive, Glasgow South Side G41 2PE.
