Folk supergroup McGoldrick, McCusker & Doyle bring their blend of Celtic songs and tunes to Cottiers.
Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle play Cottiers on Wednesday 17 February 2027. It's a Celtic songs and tunes set from three musicians who've spent decades working in the same circles, and who've come together as a trio for both the studio and the stage.
On the night, McGoldrick is on flute, uilleann pipes and whistles; McCusker takes the fiddle, whistles and harmonium; and Doyle handles vocals, guitar, bouzouki and mandola. Between them, they cover a wide stretch of the tradition, from the pipes and fiddle to the guitar and bouzouki, and they've recorded together on the album The Wishing Tree.
Individually, they're well-known names in contemporary Celtic music. They've each been founding members of era-defining bands, vital parts of the Transatlantic Sessions house band, and BBC Folk Award winners. Their session work reaches far beyond the folk scene, too: they've played on records by Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Paul Weller, Steve Martin, Joan Baez, David Gilmour and Eddi Reader. They describe themselves as a folk supergroup, and they've been playing together as a trio for years, with their live shows and their studio work both getting a fair bit of attention.
