The Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical Hairspray The Musical comes to Glasgow as part of its UK and Ireland tour, with Neil Hurst reprising the role of Edna Turnblad.
Hairspray The Musical comes to King's Theatre from 20 to 25 July 2027, as part of its UK and Ireland tour which kicks off that same month. It's a big production with a fair bit of history behind it: the show picked up eight Tony Awards on Broadway and four Olivier Awards in the West End.
The story follows Tracy Turnblad and her friends Seaweed, Little Inez, Link Larkin and Motormouth Maybelle as they strive to change the world. It's set in the sixties, and that comes through in the music β the score includes numbers like 'Welcome to the 60s', 'You Can't Stop the Beat' and 'Good Morning Baltimore'. Underneath the songs, there's a message of tolerance and a fight against racism that still carries weight.

On the casting front, Neil Hurst reprises the role of Edna Turnblad, with further casting to be announced. The Glasgow run is one stop on a wider tour across the UK and Ireland that gets going in July 2027, so it's part of a larger run rather than a one-off visit. If you're planning to go, the dates are 20 to 25 July at King's Theatre.
