A brand-new production of the Broadway musical Guys & Dolls, directed by James Brining, as part of a Scotland-wide tour.
Guys & Dolls opens at the Citizens Theatre on 4 May 2027, running through to 15 May. It's a new production of the Broadway musical, directed by James Brining, and it's not just a one-off Glasgow run — it's part of a Scotland-wide tour.
The tour is a collaboration between five Scottish theatre companies: Aberdeen Performing Arts, the Lyceum in Edinburgh, Eden Court and Dundee Rep in Dundee, and the Citizens here in Glasgow. Brining, who is the artistic director of the Lyceum, is directing the whole thing, and the production brings together creative talent from across the country. Aberdeen Performing Arts Chief Executive Sharon Burgess described it as "a classic, beloved musical, re-imagined for the modern day on a national scale."
As for the story, it's set in 1950s New York and stretches as far as Havana, following a cast of gamblers, showgirls and dreamers chasing luck across two unlikely love stories. It's the one you'll know — the high-stakes betting, the big numbers, and the New York street slang that's become part of the musical's DNA.

It's also worth remembering where it's landing. The Citizens Theatre is an iconic venue in the Gorbals, one of the few self-producing theatres in Scotland, led by artistic director Dominic Hill. It's home to the Citizens Learning team, which runs community productions, projects, classes and educational activities alongside the main stage. So, when you're heading down to the South Side for this, you're seeing it at a theatre that does a lot more than just put on shows. Guys & Dolls runs from 4 May to 15 May 2027 at the Citizens Theatre.
