American guitar virtuoso Greg Koch and his organ trio bring blues, funk and rock to Cottiers.
Greg Koch & The Koch Marshall Trio play Cottiers on Monday 12 October, with the music starting at 7pm. The headline is the Milwaukee-born guitarist Greg Koch, who's earned a reputation as a guitarist's guitarist. Joe Bonamassa once described him as "scary good", and the nickname "Gristlemaster" has stuck around his name for years.
Koch has more than two dozen albums to his name and has written best-selling Hal Leonard instructional books, so he's as much a teacher as a performer. He's also well known for his gear demonstration videos for Wildwood Guitars, which have racked up over 50 million views. His signature equipment includes the Reverend Gristlemaster guitar and Fishman pickups.
The Koch Marshall Trio formed in 2017 as an instrumental organ trio. It's a family affair on the drums: Greg plays with his son, Dylan Koch. The third chair is Toby Lee Marshall, a Hammond B3 specialist. Together they blend blues with rock, funk, jazz and country, so the set draws from a fair few different traditions rather than sticking to one lane.

It's an instrumental night, which means the focus stays on the playing rather than the singing. The trio's sound is built around the interplay between the guitar and the Hammond organ, with the drums holding it all together. If you're into blues and funk with a rock edge, this is exactly that. The show is at Cottiers, 93-95 Hyndland Street in the West End, G11 5PU, on Monday 12 October at 7pm.
