A live performance by violinist Georgia Shackleton and guitarist Aaren Bennett, marking 125 years since Shackleton's first polar voyage, part of the Celtic Connections festival.
Georgia Shackleton plays The Tall Ship Glenlee on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 January, as part of Celtic Connections 2027. She's a violinist and songwriter, and she'll be joined on guitar by Aaren Bennett. The two dates are a Friday night show at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 1pm.
The set comes from a new album and tour marking 125 years since Sir Ernest Shackleton's first polar voyage. Georgia is a distant cousin of the explorer, and the record was written on the Shackleton Violin — an instrument the luthier Steve Burnett crafted from the floorboards of Shackleton's former Edinburgh home, which had been built as a time capsule in honour of polar explorers. It was recorded aboard the historic RSS Discovery in Dundee, and the live performance weaves together songs penned by Shackleton himself, songs written by his crewmates aboard the relief vessel Morning, and Georgia's own songwriting.

The venue fits the theme. The Tall Ship Glenlee is a three-masted barque and one of only five Clyde-built ships still afloat in the world, the only one of her kind in the UK. It's run as an independent museum by The Tall Ship Glenlee Trust, and you'll find it at 150 Pointhouse Place in Glasgow's West End, G3 8RS. Tickets are £20.16, which includes the booking fee.
