Veteran improviser David Elms brings his cult improv comedy show to the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
David Elms brings Describes A Room to The Old Hairdressers on Sunday 14 March, as part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. It's a cult improv show that's played to sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and held a residency at London's Soho Theatre, and now it's back in Glasgow.
The whole thing is built with the audience: together, Elms constructs a comedy mind palace right in front of you. It's an improvisational piece, so the room you end up with depends on who's there that night. The critics have been generous about it, too. The List called it a 'triumph of the human imagination', Chortle described it as 'one of the most original and artistic comedy shows', and The Guardian went for 'a lesson in the transcendent power of collective imagining'. The Scotsman summed up Elms himself as 'beautiful, funny, clever and utterly engaging'.
Elms is a musical comedian whose intelligent whimsy found an audience on BBC Three, and he was a Chortle finalist in 2012. He's a veteran improviser, and Describes A Room is the show he's been touring through the Fringe and London. If you've never seen him work, this is a good place to start.
