Exhibition of 19th-21st century British paintings, drawings and sculpture by Modern British & Scottish Masters, the Scottish Colourists and the Glasgow School.
Cyril Gerber Fine Art is holding its Autumn Exhibition from Tuesday 13 October to Saturday 21 November, a seasonal show of British paintings, drawings and sculpture that runs across the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. It's a broad sweep of British art, bringing together Modern British and Scottish Masters, the Scottish Colourists and the Glasgow School, alongside a selection of contemporaries.
There's a fair bit of name recognition to work through here. The list of artists includes Colquhoun & MacBryde, Butler, Caulfield, Eardley, Frink, Herman, Knox, Pasmore, Reeves and Shanks, with work by Robert MacBryde. The Scottish Colourists and the Glasgow School are two of the big pillars of Scottish modernism, so seeing them in the same room as the Modern British Masters gives you a decent sense of how the local scene sat within the wider British picture over the last couple of centuries.
One thing to keep in mind is that this isn't the only thing on at the gallery. It hangs alongside Rottenrow: The Birth Of A City, an exhibition devoted to Glasgow's much-loved maternity hospital, which is being shown at the Friends of Glasgow Royal Infirmary Museum. So you can double up and see both in one trip.
