Acclaimed folk quartet Astro Bloc perform as part of the Celtic Connections 2027 festival, blending Scottish and Irish influences with contemporary sounds.
Astro Bloc play Saint Luke's and the Winged Ox on Wednesday 27 January, as part of Celtic Connections 2027. They'll be supported on the night, so it's a full bill rather than a standalone set.
If you haven't come across them, Astro Bloc is a quartet — Eryn Rae, Paul Jennings, Éadaoin Ní Mhaicín and Gillie Ó Flaherty — who pull Scottish and Irish folk together and then push it into something a bit more adventurous. The sound is built around soaring fiddle melodies, driving percussion and arrangements that don't always sit where you'd expect them to, and they've earned a reputation for high-energy live shows. It's folk that keeps moving, and they're known for bringing that energy to the stage.
The gig is part of Celtic Connections 2027, the big folk festival that takes over Glasgow every January, so it's one of many shows running across the city that month. It's for ages 14 and over, with under-16s attending with an adult.

As for the venue, Saint Luke's and the Winged Ox is the third oldest church building in Glasgow, dating back to 1836. It's in the East End at 17 Bain Street, G40 2JZ, and works as a multipurpose music and arts space with a bar and restaurant alongside its live entertainment and function facilities. It's a good spot for a mid-week gig, and since it's part of the festival, there'll be plenty of other things to catch around the city that same week.
