Former US President Barack Obama visits Glasgow for an evening of hope and resilience, marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.
President Barack Obama is coming to the OVO Hydro on Wednesday 14 October, part of a short UK tour presented by Fane & Regular Music. Glasgow is one of three dates, with the former president appearing in Belfast, Glasgow and Manchester, and joined by a different guest each night. The evening is framed around America marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.
It's a chance to hear from a man whose record is well-known: he won more votes than any candidate in history, and his time in office included rescuing the American economy from the 2008-09 crisis, revitalising the auto industry, growing the middle class, passing the Affordable Care Act and winding down two wars, while overseeing the longest stretch of job creation in American history. Since leaving the White House, he's focused on the next generation of leaders through the Obama Foundation, and the Obama Presidential Center opened this summer on Chicago's South Side.
The night is billed as a chance to hear his message of hope, resilience and the belief that ordinary people can still shape what comes next. With the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence as the backdrop, it's a conversation about the American experiment and where it goes from here, rather than a standard political rally.
