LA garage-psych outfit Allah-Las bring their Californian grooves to Cottiers.
Allah-Las play Cottiers on Monday 24 May, bringing their Californian garage-psych to the West End. It's a single-act bill, with the LA outfit taking the full slot.
They've been around since 2008, and the lineup has followed the wandering curve of Matt Correia, Spencer Dunham, Miles Michaud and Pedrum Siadatian. Their sound circles through lo-fi psych, garage rock and coastal grooves — a chemistry they forged back when they worked at Amoeba Music, the legendary record store in Hollywood. That background in a shop full of vinyl sits right at the heart of what they do: a loose, sun-drenched take on garage rock that feels more like a late-afternoon drive along the coast than a sweaty basement gig.
Their sixth album, Sirenas, takes things in a different direction. It's an expansive, atmospheric exploration of instrumental storytelling that grew out of freeform jam sessions guided by open-ended experimentation. Rather than the tight, song-focused structures of their earlier work, Sirenas lets the tracks breathe and stretch, leaning into the more psychedelic, improvisational side of their sound. It's the kind of record that asks you to sit with it rather than just put it on in the background.
